Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT)

 Background
  Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) was established in 1993 by joint approval of the leaders of the three countries: Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, whereby the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has been giving technical assistance in the feasibility study of the cooperation framework, operation scope and cooperation in five branches:
                  (1) infrastructures and transport
                  (2) commerce and investment
                  (3) tourism
                  (4) human resource development and agriculture
                  (5) agricultural industry and environment.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has been assigned the coordinator (focal point) by the Working Group on Agriculture, Agro-based Industry and Environment (WGAAIE) to consider the projects proposed by any country in IMT-GT group, so that the operation has to satisfy with the standard of the framework of IMT-GT

 Objectives
To create the cooperation in trading, investment, value addition to goods and to emphasize on the employment in private and industrial sectors, including the cooperation on natural resources and environment development in IMT-GT area.

 Duration
 There will be three countries’ working groups meeting every year, whereby the meeting venue will circulate among the member countries. Each cooperation project would continue for a period of 2 – 3 years.

 Activities   
1. The joint meeting of working groups on agriculture, agro-industry and environment of the
     three countries
2. Organization of exhibitions and study trips to visit the cooperation projects that have
     passed the consideration of three parties’ working groups
3.  Joint investment on various branches according to the cooperation projects that had
     passed the consideration of three parties’ working groups.
